Austin Duck ToursAustin Duck Adventures
512.4.SPLASH / reservations online
Make like a duck and hit the town on land and water (the tour skips the flying part). This unique tour makes a big splash, literally. After driving through the downtown area to see several points of interest, your guide vehicle—a converted military transport vehicle—heads toward Lake Austin and doesn’t stop, diving right in and floating around for a bit. Daily tours are $26 for adults; $16 for kids (free under two).

You’ll cover a lot of ground in the Central Austin area and likely get a couple quizzical looks from passers-by along the way. Tours operate morning, noon, and evening daily. The tours are 2.5 hours (includes practice) and are $65 per person.

Bats!
512.416.5700 (x3636) / more info

One of Austin’s calling cards, oddly enough. Roughly 1.5 million Mexican free-tail bats take off at the same exact time under the Congress Avenue Bridge. The insect-devouring bats call the bridge home from March through October, heading south to Mexico during the winter. Watch the sunset flight for free from the bridge or on the shore below. Lonestar Riverboat Tours offers a view from the water for $8.

Capitol Tours
512.463.0063 / website

Self-guided tours of the Texas State Capitol with knowledgeable docents on-site to answer any questions and provide insight. The daily tours feature the Capitol, Texas legislature, and a good dose of Texas history.

Personalized treatment from a highly personable tour guide.
