Panning for Gems on Lake Travis

Gem mining in Austin, Texas

Unique day trip has a bit of everything.

DayBreak Boat Rentals may make its bread and butter renting Waverunners, pontoons, ski boats, houseboats, and more watercraft, but a relatively undiscovered gem of this spot is, well, the undiscovered gems. DayBreak’s gemstone mining facility is a favorite among kids, though most parents take their turn panning for the real, brightly colored gems that are aplenty in the sands here.

Mini golf in Austin, Texas

Another family favorite at DayBreak is the 18-hole miniature golf course that is, as far as mini golf goes, a rather extravagant setup. The ubiquitous stone obstacles, streams, and other blockades are present to frustrate dad, much to the delight of his kids. That 220-yard drive so painstakingly practiced isn’t much good here, but your putting skills will be put to the test. The beautifully landscaped course also offers night golfing, a perfect way to wind down after a day on the lake.

DayBreak Boat Rentals is located just off 620 near the Mansfield Dam. If you know where Carlos ‘n Charlie’s is, you’re there (just across the parking lot). While mining for gems, mini golf, and boating are available individually, the complex offers the unique opportunity to do a little bit of everything. Creating a wonderful day trip only half an hour from Austin.
