Actually only one brother and sister, the eight-piece group have a rootsy vibe and youthful energy sure to make the seams burst at the fast-maturing Club de Ville. Opener Shapes Have Fangs rock in lo-fi black and white, like The Kinks first discovering distortion.
 James Hunter July 16 (Wednesday) James Hunter Antone's / 9:00 / $19 Soul, R&B If you feel like taking a bit of a trip back in time where R&B and soul filled the airwaves and clubs, check out James Hunter. His new release, The Hard Way, will hit shelves just days before his Austin arrival. A smooth voice and an easy hand on guitar make Hunter a real treat.

Frankly, there are a lot of bands today in the alt-country/indie rock mold. Lucero has more mettle than just about every one of them and a quiver of great albums to strike you with. July 25 (Friday) Marcia Ball Antone’s / 8:00 / $20 Blues Austin’s boogie-woogie mama Marcia Ball dances her way to Antone’s. Fresh of the successful release and tour of her latest album, Peace, Love & BBQ, Ball eases back into the swing of things behind the ivories. She’s recently added a bit of edginess to her song catalog and still belts out the dance favorites.

August 5 (Tuesday) Earlimart, Zookeeper Mohawk / 8:00 / $12 Indie, Pop, Rock Earlimart’s aptly titled new album, Hymn and Her hit stores July 1st and the L.A. duo sweeps through Austin at a perfect venue for them—the Mohawk. The album is filled with well-crafted and inspired pop-rock gems. Earlimart can successfully flip the genre switch and belt out acoustic-based Americana numbers with the best of them. They’re one of the better male/female duos out there, and should find the stage cozy and the fans frenzied. Austin’s unique indie rock outfit Zookeeper, opens.  The Hold Steady August 6 (Wednesday) The Hold Steady, The Loved Ones La Zona Rosa / 9:00 / $20 Rock Hailing from Brooklyn, this Rolling Stones meets a modern day Eddie and the Cruisers brings us guitar rock loudness and witty slices of Americana. August 8 (Friday) Jimmie Vaughan Antone’s / 8:00 / $21 Blues, Blues-rock Jimmie Vaughan has played his guitar every day since he was 13 years-old and his fingers are still flying! Nine Fabulous Thunderbirds albums later, and records with Clapton & King, Dylan, Santana, Billy Gibbons, Doyle Bramhall and more and this Vaughan cat has never sounded better. August 17 (Sunday) A Place to Bury Strangers, The Boxing Lesson, UME Emo’s / 9:00 / $10-$15 Psychedelic, Electronic, RPM Put it this way, if you’re opening for a band with the intensity of Nine Inch Nails, you’d better know how to bring it yourself. APTBS hails from the seedy backstreet dance dungeons of New York and haul in their electronic hardware to completely blow up Emo’s. These guys are New Order on speed.
August 22 (Friday) The Melvins, Big Business Emo’s / 9:00 / $10-15 Rock, Punk If you hear a serious bite of Led Zep’s “Out on the Tiles” when you first play the Melvin’s brand new record Nude With Boots, it won’t be the first time. Twenty-four years and over 25 albums later, L.A.’s Melvins bring their guitar worthiness, dual drumming intensity and tongue-in-cheek lyrical commentary to downtown Austin. Just in time for the real summer heat y’all.

The newly released Evil Urges positions them to take an additional step as one of the most popular American indie rock bands. They gave us a preview at this year’s SXSW, here is the full monty.  The Black Crowes November 22 (Saturday) The Black Crowes La Zona Rosa Southern Rock Though it's not for quite a while, The Black Crowes just announced an Austin show on November. Tickets will go on sale Saturday morning, June 21st at 10:00 am. Cost of tickets isn't avialable yet, but expect them to fall somewhere between $Pricey and $Very Pricey. The band is touring behind Warpaint, their first new studio record in seven years.
