A Romantic Side Note: There is a legend that Mt. Bonnell was once called Antoinette's Leap, named after a damsel who leaped to her death to avoid capture from Indians that killed her lover, who fought to his death to defend her. Now generally considered safe, Mt. Bonnell is one of the most romantic locations in Austin. Lovers: keep your heads clear and avoid walking too close to the cliffs! Parents should keep an eye on their children as well.

Directions to Mount Bonnell: Located on Mt. Bonnell Road, one mile past the west end of West 35th, Exit Mopac at 35th or at FM 2222 and head west. FM 2222 is also accessible from Loop 360 -- you will need to go east and turn right on Mt. Bonnell Road This road curves through several hills until you reach the parking lot on your right. Take the stairs from the parking lot to the vista. The area is a short hike from the road and there is no entrance fee. |
