Jessica Erickson will be showing her figurative paintings on Saturday July 14th from 7-11pm at the Austin Figurative Gallery located at 301 Chicon Unit F, ATX 78702. This event is free and open to the public.
Jessica recently moved here and has been painting with the Austin Figurative Project. Her work has a strange balance to it that hit me unexpectedly. Watching her paint is very interesting. The rest of us tend to paint on a new board or canvas for each different pose our model takes, but Jessica keeps working the same panel so she ends up with a painting of one model in about 6 different positions. She weaves it all together is a compelling way. She makes painting decisions boldly and with calm, confident abandon that you would expect only from someone much older. She's originally from Detroit where my Father spent some of his childhood. I think I can spot some of the bleakness of Detroit in her work, and it serves her purposes well. http://jessicaerickson.com Image link; http://jessicaerickson.com/images/paint/01/aimless3.jpg http://jessicaerickson.com/images/paint/01/aimless3.jpg David Ohlerking II 227 N.
