As part of its 2006 season, the Austin LUNA Chix triathlon team will have its annual Breast Cancer Fund fundraiser at the Lotus Asian Art & Antiques Gallery, 1201-B West Sixth Street, on Sunday, June 18, from 6pm to 9pm. Suds on Sixth is free, but fifteen-dollar donations per person are welcome at the door. 100% of the event's proceeds will go to the Breast Cancer Fund.
Attendees will have the opportunity to hear live music by award winning singer-songwriter Shelley King, as well as enjoy hors d'oeuvres by Gina's Kitchen and beers from popular vendors including ALAMO Beer Company, New Belgium Brewing Company, and Real Ale Brewing Company. Nile Valley Herb Teas will provide non-alcoholic beverages. There will also be goodie bags for attendees and a raffle. Raffle tickets will be sold for $5.00 each and prizes include a $500 discount on a domestic trip from WomanTours and gift certificates for local businesses. This year the event's silent auction will be online! Silent auction items include dinners at local restaurants, passes to popular festivals, and much more. Interested parties may bid at http://www.austinlunachix.com starting on June 11 at 5:00pm. The auction will end on June 18 at 5:00pm. Auction winners may come to the live fundraiser event at Lotus Asian Art & Antiques Gallery to claim their item or have the item sent to them at additional mailing cost. The Breast Cancer Fund believes that most breast cancer can be prevented, and has adopted the bold mission to eliminate the environmental causes of the disease. Through public education, policy initiatives, outdoor challenges and other innovative campaigns, the Breast Cancer Fund mobilizes the public to secure the changes needed to stop this devastating epidemic. Sponsored by LUNAbar, a whole nutrition bar for women, the Austin LUNA Chix Triathlon Team is a volunteer organization working to provide a fun, safe, and supportive environment for women interested in improving their overall physical fitness. The team believes any woman, regardless of age or fitness, can train to compete in a triathlon. The team also encourages social change by actively participating in fund-raising efforts for the Breast Cancer Fund.
