Well it is March and now its time for the NCAA basketball tournament. The University of Texas at Austin is the NCAA national champion in football and the defending NCAA national champion in baseball. Now the UT basketball team (ranked 8th in the nation) is trying to win the NCAA national title in their sport and is bringing their school-record 29 wins into the next round as they try to make the title game on Monday night, April 3rd. Led by P.J. Tucker and the NBA-bound LaMarcus Aldridge, the Longhorns won the regular season title of the Big 12 Conference. Now that the Sweet Sixteen has arrived, the real action will commence and Texas is in the final 16 teams for the fourth time in the last eight years under coach Rick Barnes. Texas has won against a slow-down defense in their 1st game and a speed-up offence in their 2nd game, so they have shown the versatility that could carry them all the way. Texas beat Penn in their opener and North Carolina State in the second round to become the only Big 12 team left in the tournament. Texas (seeded second in its regional) will play sixth-seeded West Virginia (who was beaten earlier this year by Texas) next on March 22nd or 23rd and will probably have to beat the Duke Blue Devils (seeded first) to advance to the Final Four. Earlier this season, Duke beat Texas by over 30 points, but the Texas squad was not healthy and at full strength. We look forward to cheering on our beloved Texas Longhorns in their quest for the top.
