The HMS luncheon will be highlighted by nationally recognized Hispanic market experts:  Dr. David Hayes-Bautista, Professor of Medicine and Director of the Center for the Study of Latino Health and Culture at the School of Medicine, UCLA; advertising guru Sergio Alcocer, President and Chief Creative Officer of the award-winning Austin-based advertising agency, LatinWorks, joined by Danny Cervantes and Tommy Thompson, who collaborate as client and agency on McDonalds’ Hispanic efforts.

“The Ad Fed is thrilled to host this groundbreaking conference, and to bring more insight and sophistication into multicultural marketing,” says chapter President Kevin Cassis.  “Clearly, Latinos are part of the mainstream now and extremely important to the fabric of our culture.  Learning how to better reach and influence this vital group of consumers will help our members and advertisers tremendously.”

The event will be moderated by Becky Arreaga, a partner in Mercury Mambo, a Hispanic Experiential Marketing, Sales Promotions, and Branding Agency.

According to the Selig Center for Economic Growth at the University of Georgia, Latino buying power in Texas alone will reach nearly $252 billion by 2013.

“This event will help local businesses get a better understanding of how to tap into Austin’s expanding Hispanic population and their enormous buying power,” states Luis Patiño, VP/General Manager for Univision Austin, head of the diversity committee of the Austin Advertising Federation.

Dr. Hayes-Bautista is an expert on Hispanic health issues and the author of “Southwest’s Mexican Roots: The Untold Stories” which explores the history of Mexicans in the Southwest. Mr. Alcocer has developed many high profile campaigns, including Bud Light’s ads for the 2007 Super Bowl, and has captured top awards including the Cannes Lions Festival, FIAP, CLIOs, national Addy's, and Grand Prix at Festival Caribe. Danny Cervantes is McDonald’s Regional Marketing Manager. Together with Tommy Thompson, the Latin-born president of iNSPIRE, they’re responsible for the success of McDonalds’ McCafé launch. Their in-depth understanding of the unique characteristics of Texas’ Hispanics led them to a unique marketing approach with results which outpaced those of comparable stores throughout the country.
