The City of Austin’s Art in Public Places Program Presents
Discovery and Dialogue: Public Art on its Head
An 8 Hour Symposium
Featuring Lunch with Renown Environmental Artist Ned Kahn
Austin, TX- The City of Austin’s Cultural Arts Division announces
details of the Art in Public Places Program component to Take it to
the Next Level: Professional Development and Technical Assistance
Workshops for Creatives. “Discovery and Dialogue: Public Art on its
Head” a full-day symposium of inquiry and information will take place
on Saturday September 12th.
Participants will learn about how the city's public art program
operates, receive insider tips on getting noticed (and selected!),
contemplate community critique of work in public space, and receive
information on how to enter into the field. The day will offer six
distinct, one-hour interactive sessions, covering topics like how to
create successful proposals, community critique in public art,
materials and sustainability, art advocacy, and local involvement in
programs and possibilities.
Highlight of the symposium: lunch with special guest, nationally
renowned artist, and MacArthur Fellow, Ned Kahn, who is known for
replicating the forms and forces of nature. His creative interventions
fuel imaginations worldwide.
In addition to the hour-long workshops and dynamic panel discussions,
a Resource Lounge will host one-on-one or small group consultations
and serve as a landing pad for networking and resource exchange.
Compare notes with industry experts, city staff, policymakers and
peers.
$10 Registration Fee includes parking, box lunch, morning and
afternoon snacks, take-home materials (including the Public Art
Resource Guide), a docent-led tour of the University of Texas
Landmarks Collection; opportunities for consults with subject matter
