Cedar Creek Studio Upgrade
Written by Fred Mitchim
Cedar creek 28 yr agoCedar Creek Recording has been one of Austins finest recording facilities for over 28 years. Fred Mitchim talks to Fred Remmert about his years with Cedar Creek Recording Studios.

FM - Since 1981, when you bought the studio, who have been your biggest and/or most interesting clients?

FR - Well the “biggest” was probably Don Walser.  Oh, I get it, you meant most famous. :)  Well, Iʼd have to say the Dixie Chicks since they made the largest selling record ever made in Austin right here at Cedar Creek. 8 million, I think?

FM - Most interesting?

FR - Well thatʼs a real hard one. I have met a lot of very interesting people in my career. Thatʼs what I love about my job!  Weʼve been very fortunate to have worked with a lot of great talents over the years. Stevie Vaughn even recorded here. The list is too long.

FM - Over the past year, many big changes have occurred. Please tell us what has happened.

FR - We have completely remodeled the studio, adding a “proper” sized control room and creating a whole host of new recording spaces. We have plenty of room now to accommodate almost any kind of session, including live recording sessions of up to 10 players with good isolation and site lines. We have also formed a new record label called Music Road to help support some of our favorite artists, and to get their art out to the world.  We are very excited about this new venture. We are nicely staffed and well funded.

FM - What are the studio and record company links?

FR - The web sites for both the label and the studio are currently being re-worked, and soon will “wow” you, but for now, here are the links to the current (if not boring) sites…

FM - Out of the many musicians who might be interested in Cedar Creek who do you feel would benefit most from what you have to offer?

FR -Anyone who is interested in the highest quality, coolest vibe, best value recording experience ever!

FM - What else would you like to tell musicians looking for a place to record?

FR - Look for a place that you can afford that has a track record and a reputation for good sounds. After all, you have to live with what your record sounds like.

FM - Last of all where and when do you teach Nuendo classes?

FR - Currently, I am too busy with label and studio business to teach formal classes, but anyone who wants to hear me preach the gospel according to Steinberg is free to contact me.
