Amplified Heat interview
Written by Fred Mitchim
A few months ago my band played on the same bill with Amplified Heat. I have never seen any other band look and sound like this since I was very young.  Heres a short interview and a video link with the most interesting trio I've seen in many years!

Fred M...Back in the day I saw Hendrix, Cream, Blue Cheer, and I feel ya’ll are right there.Your music struck me as psychedelic hard rock. What would you call it and what direction are ya’ll headed?

Chris...Early on, one of the main objectives of our band is to capture that raw vintage sound we grew up loving and is the entire reason we became musicians, 'the sound'.  It wasn't until about 10 years ago we where able to find and afford the equipment from that era. We got the Fender guitars, amps and cabs from the mid-sixties and just turn up the volume.  The drums are tuned high and left wide open, no muffling.  And they are American made Ludwigs and Rogers from the 60's.

FM...Who writes the songs and what are the influences?

Chris...There is no main songwriter in this band. Whoever has the idea, we go with it.  Jim wrote most of the early stuff.  Gian came out strong with writing riffs on our last album, and I write lyrics to some songs.

FM...Opening for a successful band out on the road can lead to a band being discovered. Who do ya’ll want to open for and why?

Chris...We'll open for anyone willing to take us on board.  With that said, the band would have to be huge.  ZZ Top is one that comes to mind because Billy Gibbons is Jim's hero.

FM...If you had money behind you what would you do to improve your visibility?

Chris... Go on tour all over the world.

FM...How do you feel about the music scene in Texas?

Chris...The music scene in Texas is very large, diverse and has so much to offer the music fan.  Clearly Austin has the strongest.  Almost every musician I meet has moved from their hometown here. There are people here who have a great love for live music and come out to support bands on any given night, even weeknights.

Chris...To say we are up there with Hendrix, Cream and Blue Cheer from someone who actually witnessed it is a tremendous compliment, thank you.  What can we call our music nowadays where there are labels for everything?  I wish we could just call in rock n roll.  We will always have the blues, psychedelic and heavy elements into our music, but we are not a throwback band.  We're of today and are going forward with whatever comes out of our heads.  As long as we make music that keeps the chicks dancing and make everyone go wild, we have a future.
