Austin?s M?sica Latina

ImageIf you are a regular on the salsa scene in Austin or looking for a close, romantic dance experience, why not start your weekend early tonight with a new Latin flavor: Tango. There will be live milonga music at Cipollina?s on West Lynn, and you are sure to run into Austin?s Argentine tango crowd and local instructors. Even if you feel like you have two left feet, come out and let the passion of the milonga intoxicate you?I guarantee that you will not want to stay in your seat for very long! Afterwards, head over to Copa for Thursday night salsa with the Brew.

Thursday, May 19th
Copa Bar and Grill: The Brew (outdoor patio this week) ? recommended
217 Congress Ave, (512) 479-5002, $5 cover, open until 2am

This venue has two dance floors and an outdoor patio. Downstairs is a large space with a concrete floor and mirrored wall, while upstairs has a nice wooden floor and reasonably sized dance area. The crowd for live music (The Brew) on most Thursdays peaks around 11:30 and is usually large, but sometimes the turnout is a bit thin?two work-nights in a row can take its toll on some?

Bongo?s, 505 Neches Street, between 5th and 6th, DJ music starts around 10pm, no cover

This is an 18 & up club. The younger crowd filters in around 11:30pm and the music shifts from predominantly salsa y merengue to Latin pop. Some salseros prefer this club over Copa on Thursday nights, but they do get there early to take advantage of more dance space. Be forewarned: if you are looking for a casual, more mature salsero crowd and more room to dance into the late hours, this is probably not the best venue for you.

Manuel?s at Great Hills: Teye & Belen Flamenco
10201 Jollyville Rd, (512) 345-1042 near the Arboretum, behind
Regal Arbor Cinema
If you are looking for live music to enjoy with an elegant dinner, check out Manuel?s (call for time).

Cipollina?s: Milonga Tango, 8-10pm, live band
1213 West Lynn, (512) 477-5211
