Suppose the name speaks for itself, but our Family Zone section aims to offer a bit more than your typical pink-for-the-girls, blue-for-the-boys approach. Austinites have a unique energy; we don’t always conform to what everyone else is doing, and raising a family in Austin can have a similar streak to it. Sure, when Sesame Street comes to town, it will sell out. But the kids will be sporting some serious rock ‘n’ roll T-shirts.
Austin.com’s Family Zone will be chock full of activities, events, and ideas for families looking to retain that cool, uniquely Austin vibe. That’s not to say you won’t find more traditional activities here as well. After all, storytime will always be storytime.
The Family Zone menu on the right includes a Calendar for a look ahead at special events; a Directory, where you can find citywide guides to family-oriented needs (weekly storytimes, public playgrounds, daycare center, etc.); Neighborhood Sports is a comprehensive resource for sports and rec leagues; and the Features section will give deeper stories on topics ranging from family vacation ideas to quick, healthy recipes for families on the go.

Austin.com wants to help our best friends by introducing you to some of the friendly faces looking for help out there. Fred Mitchim has made some funny videos to help you find a friend. Austin.com has also attached a feature to this section that allows you to "shop" the current pets available by refreshing your page. So you can now fall in love with the one you are going to save.
