Think of the hungry when you’re hungry!

Food Drive to support the Capital Area Food Bank in effect at Kerbey Lane.
Image Beginning November 23 and running through December 28, Kerbey Lane Café will be accepting donations for the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas at all 4 of their Central Austin locations.  Donations can be made in the form of food and cash.  Customers can donate canned goods in exchange for discounts on their meal.  Two canned goods will get customers $1 off their check, with a maximum of $5 off.  Homemade Capital Area Food Bank gingersnap cookies will also be available to purchase with $1 of each sale going directly to the Food Bank.  One dollar is enough for the Food Bank to provide 5 meals for hungry Central Texans.

Like most college students, I am no stranger to partying on a budget. Some might opt for the “always smooth” case of Keystone over the much preferred taste of Dos Equis, while others frequent 6th Street on Thursday nights for the infamous $1 beers and $2 “you call its”. However you may choose to cut corners, fun should never be a sacrifice.  I realized my calling shortly after I moved to Austin (more specifically after my 21st birthday). My part time job wasn’t funding my social hour quite like I had hoped, and I surely was not about to surrender my good times to the recession. Sushi Zushi opens on W. 5th Street

San Antonio based restaurant opens first of two Austin locations.

 

ImageEight years ago, Alfonso Tomita, president and CEO of Sushi Zushi, opened his very first location in a small retail strip in NW San Antonio. The market was ripe for something fresh, new and creative and Tomita’s delivery of what the public wanted sparked a buzz throughout the city.  At the time, the notion of fusion food was relatively unfamiliar to San Antonians, but as word of Sushi Zushi spread, so did the concept.  Soon, locals began flocking to the Colonnade shopping center to taste a little of the East and West literally rolled into one.
