Some good ‘ol bacchanalian fundraising.
Of course Rome wasn’t built in a day; they had a god reserved specifically for wine and parties. Praying to Baachus took on a whole different context to religious devotion—one that might be a little counter-productive to empire building. These days, feasting in Bacchanalian proportions is far from a pious duty. But enjoying the bliss that fine wine and excellent food can create is most certainly a satisfying way to celebrate life. And while you may not build the Colosseum while doing it, enjoy La Dolce Vita Wine & Food Festival and you’re contributing to one of Austin’s greatest cultural treasures. |

Photo courtesy The Parlour Beloved South Austin corner store keeps evolving. South Austin’s denizens and frequent I-35 drivers are surely familiar with The Whip-In. The Topiwala family opened the little shop in 1986 as a neighborhood convenience store, but it soon became well known for its impressive and affordably priced selection of fine wines and beers from all over the world. Benefit event has passed, but Red Cross still needs donations. A sportscaster, musician, and a politician walk into a Japanese steakhouse. Far from a joke, this is actually the makings of one of the most intriguing, and important, fundraisers this side of Hurricane (fill in the blank). The inaugural Serving the Red Cross Benefit found a bevy of area media celebrities behind the fabled teppanyaki grill stations at Benihana Japanese Steakhouse on September 11. |

Herbed Peach Sangria Original recipes for the ultimate refreshing libation. This summer has been—oh, what’s the word…scorching? Thankfully, there’s mercy: sangría, an easy-to-make, crowd-pleasing summer cooler that brings swift relief from the high temperatures.
