Auditions for Gilbert & Sullivan’s - The Yeomen of the Guard

Image The Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Austin announces auditions for its June 10-20 production of “The Yeomen of the Guard” by W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan.  Ralph MacPhail, Jr. and Jeffrey Jones-Ragona will be returning as artistic and musical directors, respectively.
 
Auditions are approximately ten minutes long, by appointment only. All roles are open for casting, including principals, comprimarios, and chorus.  A prepared, accompanied aria, completed audition form, résumé, and headshot are required. For complete details, visit www.gilbertsullivan.org .

Graham Reynolds and Peter Stopschinski’s Symphony VI

The World Premiere of Stopschinski & Reynolds’ Symphony VI Texas Premiere of Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead’s Popcorn Superhet Receiver: AUSTIN, Texas–The world premiere of Graham Reynolds and Peter Stopschinski’s Symphony VI will take place on February 6th at AustinVentures StudioTheater.  Inspired by the life and work of 19th century inventor and mathematician Charles Babbage, Reynolds’ composed The Difference Engine, a triple concerto for violin, cello, and piano with string orchestra.  A lecture on Babbage by L. B. Deyo at the monthly Dionysium brought the subject and piece into focus.  Featuring soloists Jonathan Dexter on cello, Leah Zeger on violin, and the composer at the piano, Reynolds developed the concerto on and off for two years, starting with an Austin Museum of Art commission for a piano suite responding to the art of Sol LeWitt (fifth movement), continuing with the score for the Rude Mechanicals Method Gun (fourth movement), and finally through the process of recording the album version, to be released in conjunction with the premier concert.
