Mouse and the Traps.....Lost Sessions I think it was 1971 when I was told about a killer rock band with an unbelievable guitar player that was playing around east Texas. They had a great name...Mouse and the Traps... I never had the pleasure of catching them but I did see the unbelievable guitar player "Bugs Henderson" at the Armadillo World Headquarters around '74......drop everything and go see him if you ever get the chance. |

Austin singer songwriter Fredy Argir has released a new C.D. called Last Time Around. Fredy’s voice is his main gift. Most guys who hope to sound authentic would die for his effortless delivery and gravel road tone. Good songs, good production, good back up musicians, its all here. Now of course here in the city of a million bands you might never hear or see him but that doesn’t change the fact Fredy’s got it all going on. |

The Belleville Outfit Time to Stand Self-Released (Release Date: 5/12/09) Seemingly blasted out of shotgun in early 2008, the debut album Wanderin' by Austin six-piece Belleville Outfit raced up the Americana music charts while many tastemaker radio stations crowned them kings (and queen). With crafty guitarists and vocalists Rob Teter and Marshall Hood, keyboardist Connor Forsyth, and the wonderfully complimentary vocals and violin of Phoebe Hunt, the ingredients remain the same, but will their follow up, Time to Stand, keep them in the high court of roots music up-and-comers? |

DUSTIN WELCH Whisky Priest Self-released (Release Date: 4/11/09) Dustin Welch's high-energy live shows built an enthusiastic fan base eagerly awaiting his debut release, Whisky Priest. His southern-accented rock ‘n’ roll is played hard and loud, with as many as seven or eight musicians gathered on their guitars, bass, and drums, accented by Tricia Keefer's violin and Welch's banjo. Throughout the album, Welch and his band provide an amped-up and thoroughly modern take on a variety of traditions. |

NAKIA & HIS SOUTHERN COUSINS Water to Wine KiaChia Productions (Release Date: 4/7/09) In turning water to wine, Jesus took what is already a valuable, nourishing resource and transformed it to something—while maybe not as necessary—something better. Let’s just run with that allegory and say that’s pretty much what Nakia does on his so-named debut. |

PAUL WESLEY When I Let Go Independent (Release Date: 3/31/09) Texas native Paul Wesley grew up around music—his mother played piano in church, and at age 12 he bought his first guitar with money he saved up by mowing lawns. It was at this point his mother sat him down and forbade him from playing "the devil's music." |

DAVID LUTES Big Top Blueroot Music (Release Date: 3/10/09) Clocking in at just barely over an hour, it seems at first glance that Plumtucker frontman David Lutes' latest release should have been a single disc release. But, like the ringmaster at the circus, Lutes separates the different performances on the two-disc Big Top allowing each to take a moment in the spotlight. |

RIVERBOAT GAMBLERS Underneath the Owl Volcom Entertainment (Release Date: 3/10/09)
Say you’re at the record store, looking at the new release shelf. There’s a bunch of stuff you’ve never heard of. There’s some dance trash you’d never listen to. There are some bands you used to like in high school that have fallen into lame obscurity, back for a last crack at you. There’s, well, Kelly Clarkson’s new album. And somewhere among the homogeny of pop/rock/electronica what-have-yous, you start thinking, “What happened to punk?” Did you lose track around the early ‘00s crap-splosion that was the word-number bands (lookin’ at you 182 and 41) and Green Day so-called revival? Have you given up yet? |

On his latest two-disc release, Equinox / Funk Fest, not only did D-Madness produce, write, and arrange each track, he also plays almost every instrument in each song. |
