Flipnotics Coffeespace Erik Hokkanen’s Laboratory 8:00 / Free Swing, Gypsy, Surf, Country This should be the first set to which Austinites take out-of-towners to demonstrate the sickenly mad range of musical talent this town has to offer. In a tiny coffeehouse room on a Tuesday night, Hokkanen leads one of the most jaw-dropping sets of music in the country. Momo’s Bukka Allen, Sally Allen, La Tampiquena 8:00 / $5 Americana, Cosmic Country Bukka Allen (Terry Allen’s son) inspires with otherworldly Americana. Late night romp with La Tampiquena follows the continued experiment of cosmic country, where “that redneck done married a hippie” is a normal, good-natured ribbing. Opal Divine’s That Damned Band 8:00 Psychedelic Americana Accordion-led, over-the-edge tin-pan-alley outfit solicited the remark “who is that damned band” enough times for the moniker to stick.
