Reel Women is the not for profit organization here in Austin, Texas, that provides information, education, networking activities, and opportunities for community service to women (and men too) at all levels of experience in the film and video industries. On Monday, December 1, they will be holding their third annual Big Holiday Party at Hi-Lo at 6th and Lavaca. Featuring Happy Hour drink prices, music from DJ Skoolboi, dancing, food, a raffle and a silent auction, the party is a great opportunity to connect with some new folks who share your passion for moviemaking.

Many we take for granted, like Barton Springs, Zilker Park, and killer live music. But there is no denying, these and so much more make Austin, Texas, one of the more special places on Earth one can live. Below, you’ll find just a few of those reasons:

February Annual Events

Carnaval in Austin, Texas
It's the shortest month of the year, but one of Austin's biggest parties of the year occurs in February...at least, it usually does. Falling on the last day of January for 2009, Carnaval will last well into the next morning though, so, consider it a kickoff to February events after all. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Austin's biggest running event also takes place in the shortest month.

Austin kids get excited to GIVE gifts.The parade and free candy are cool, but the big draw is giving.

Local Tex-Mex eatery Chuy’s will ring in the season of giving this year with their 20th annual Children Giving to Children Christmas Parade benefiting Operation Blue Santa. On November 29, Austinites both old, and most importantly young, will line the streets, toys in tow, anxiously awaiting their chance to hand over shiny new toys to families in need.
