Part of Houston’s Swishahouse rap royalty is playing Austin this weekend for far less than his usual concert price, but for far greater significance. Proceeds from platinum-selling rapper Paul Wall’s concert will benefit Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas. The October 4th event will take place on the UT campus at the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity house, and the bill will include local rappers Gerald G, PLA, and DJ Grip.

Daspletosaur prowls Zilker
Exhibit at Zilker Botanical Garden is a trip back in time...way back.

You’ve ventured a few hundred yards off the MoPac Expressway, and you’ve just stumbled upon a four-ton, thirty-foot long Edmontosaurus staring you square in the eyes, guarding her eggs with all her might. As she inflates her flat-billed face, she belts out a massive trumpeting sound as a warning to keep your distance. Meanwhile, searching for their next meal, a herd of small, but ravenous Compsognathus race by.

The Garza brothers say Los Lonely Boys drop new record; join Brotherhood Tour.
Austin’s Los Lonely Boys (OK, San Angelo’s really) are joining the legendary East L.A. rock/blues/traditional Mexican music pioneers Los Lobos for a co-headlining tour hitting 19 cities throughout the U.S. The Brotherhood Tour will explode from mid-July to mid-August, as both Grammy-winning Latin rock acts are renowned for their live sets. Rolling Stone said of Los Lobos: “With the exception of U2, no other band has stayed on top of their game as Los Lobos.” Nice quote, but Los Lobos was bending genres back in 1973, long before Bono and Co. did anything of significance. Los Lonely Boys will be touring behind their third release, Forgiven, to be released July 1st on Epic. The title might be in reference to some run-ins with the law since 2006’ Sacred. Fine and dandy, but our question is: No Austin dates for the Brotherhood Tour? Really? That might not be forgiven so quickly.
