Matthew McConaughey is Surfer Dude

Tickets are now on sale for a certain-to-be-sold-out world premier of local boy Matthew McConaughey’s new, upcoming comedy, Surfer, Dude, co-starring Woody Harrelson and Willie Nelson among others. The premier screening will take place September 3 at the Paramount Theatre downtown. McConaughey, Director S.R. Bindler and some cast members will be on hand for a Q&A, and they will also be on hand for the official after-party at The Belmont restaurant.

It’s a trifle surprising an art benefit can be so damn fun. Really, aren’t these things supposed to be white-gloved Mr. Belvedere affairs? The Rude Mechanicals’ annual fundraiser and celebration of performing art has a giant silent auction, live auction, a comedy hypnotist, a DJ, intuitive readings, live food performance…and this is just the warm up. “Of course, at 11:00, we just throw down,” explains Lana Lesley, one of six co-producing artistic directors (and founding member) of Rude Mechanicals.
